General Advice

Most problems can be fixed by uninstalling the software and then reinstalling the software. With version 3, you must first make sure the program is not running in the background. If you see the little blue and yellow quarter sun icon in your system tray of your Taskbar (near the time), then the program is running. You must right click this icon and select SHUT DOWN or EXIT before uninstalling and reinstalling.

Uninstallation and Reinstallation

UNINSTALLATION

  1. Before you uninstall, you must make sure the program is not running in the background. If you see the blue and yellow quarter sun icon in your System Tray of your Taskbar (near the time), right click on it and select Shut Down or Exit.
  2. Start Button > Programs > Day-Savor > Uninstall Day-Savor
  3. Click NEXT
  4. Click FINISH
  5. Click the Start Button > Find > Files or Folders...
  6. In the field after "Named:" type in daysav
  7. In the drop down menu in the field after "Look in:" (click the little triangle at the right end of the field) select My Computer
  8. Click Find Now
  9. Delete any files found

REINSTALLATION

  1. Exit and Save other running programs/applications
  2. Insert the Day-Savor CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.
  3. The installation program should begin automatically, however, if it does not, double click your My Computer icon, then double click your CD-ROM Drive icon, and finally double click Setup.exe to start the installation program.
  4. During the installation process we suggest you accept the installation defaults by answering YES and OK to the dialogue prompts.
You may have regular Windows windows pop up and appear in front of the blue background of the installation program (they will contain the typical file layout of the Window's environment such as a list of files and their icons). If this happens, simply close the window (click the X in the upper right corner) or click on the blue of the installation's background and the installation program will be brought to the front again allowing you to continue with the installation.
  5. After you have successfully installed the software, whether or not you are prompted to reboot, it is a good idea.

"When I Start My Computer:

  • My System is Frozen."
  • My Usual Desktop Icons are Missing."

The above problems are all probably related to the same issue. Most likely, your computer is not frozen. Because you probably chose during installation to have the Day-Savor program to load (begin) when Windows boots (starts), the Day-Savor Main Program's Full-Screen Display starts when you power up your computer. This is not the Screen Saver, it is the Main Program's Full-Screen Display and the picture and message is not your Desktop Wallpaper. Chances are that your system is not frozen.

Click the menu item File and select Close or Shut Down.

"How do I Stop the Day-Savor from Starting when I Boot Windows?"

If you do not wish to have the Full-Screen Display activate when you boot Windows, deselect the checkbox next to Full Screen Display on Start in the Program Options window, General Program Settings tab. The Day-Savor will still load with Windows next time you start your computer, however, the Full-Screen Display will not come up. The blue and yellow quarter sun icon in your System Tray of your Taskbar (near the time) indicates the Day-Savor is running. Right click on this icon for options.

If you do not want the Day-Savor to load AT ALL during Windows start up, remove the DAYSAVOR shortcut icon from your startup directory (folder):

C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

NOTE: Successories Titles may have a different icon name such as SuccessDaySav or DailyMotivator.

Day-Savor Displays the Incorrect Date

If the date on the Day-Savor Screen-A-Day-Calendar Full-Screen Display or Screen Saver is incorrect, the date on your operating system (i.e., Windows 98) is incorrect.

  1. Double click the time in the lower right corner of the Taskbar
  2. In the Date/Time Properties window, set the date to the correct day and the time
  3. Click OK

Error Message: Cannot Read from Drive . . .

If, during installation, you receive the above error message, take the CD-ROM out of your CD-ROM Drive and insert it again.

If you continue to get this error, it is possible you have a bad CD-ROM. Verify that other CD-ROMs work in your CD-ROM drive.

Image and Text Don't Change Each Day

If you keep your computer on longer than 24 hours, the Day-Savor's picture and message will not change when the day changes. Either rebooting your computer or manually shutting the Day-Savor down and then restarting the program will give you a new Image and Text.

If this doesn't solve your situation, make sure you do not have the checkbox next to Limit to Favorite Text or Limit to Favorite Picture(s) Only in the Program Options window checked.

Cannot Make Changes to the Picture and/or Message

Some Day-Savor Software titles do not allow these features.

"How do I Create Windows' Desktop Wallpaper?"

From the Full-Screen Display, click the menu item Options and select Set As Wallpaper. The wallpaper will not automatically change each day. If you wish to set each screen as your wallpaper, you will have to do so manually.

More Information about the Two (2) Different Day-Savor Programs

There are two (2) separate programs that make up the Day-Savor Screen-A-Day-Calendar software:

  1. The Day-Savor's Main Program, which includes the Full-Screen Display.
UNLIKE the Screen Saver, the Main Program's Full-Screen Display WILL NOT dismiss when you move the mouse. The Full-Screen Display includes a Menu at the top left of the screen where you can Close the Full-Screen Display or access other features such as the Calendar feature and Help File.
This is a program like any other program and IS NOT YOUR DESKTOP WALLPAPER. If you shut down the Day-Savor's Main Program, you may re-activate it again manually by clicking the Start Button > Programs > Day-Savor > Day-Savor.
  2. The Day-Savor Screen Saver will dismiss when the mouse is moved or any key is pressed just like other screen savers.

If you do not wish to have the Full-Screen Display activate when you boot Windows, in the Program Options window General Program Options tab, simply uncheck the box next to Full Screen Display on Start. The Day-Savor will still boot with Windows next time you start your computer, but the Full-Screen Display will not come up and you will only see the blue and yellow quarter sun icon in your System Tray of your Taskbar (near the time).

If you do not want the Day-Savor to load AT ALL when Windows starts up, then remove the DaySavor shortcut icon from your startup directory (folder):

C:\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Substitute WINNT for WINDOWS for NT users. For Successories titles, the shortcut icon may be named SuccessDaySav or DailyMotivator.
